5 Ways to know if your lipstick has gone bad

Jun 24, 2020

1.     The Smell

Yes, girls, you must always do the smell check. Usually, or most of the time, your lipstick should have a very yummy vanilla scent (it’s the number one ingredient). If your lipstick has a spoiled or rotting scent, this is a definite sign you need to dispose of it right away. It’s just not good for you.

2.     It has Mold

The way you can tell if there is mold - is when you open the lipstick, you might see a white cast, or white spots, which thereby constitutes the formation of mold. If you see this, immediately throw it away. If it is a MAC lipstick, go ahead and collect six of them and bring them to the store, and you will receive one for free – they are very much into recycling.

3.     No Glide

WHEN YOU USE THE LIPSTICK, AND IT HAS NO SMELL OR MOLD, BUT IT DOESN’T FLOW EASILY WHEN YOU APPLY IT, OR IT’S JUST NOT GLIDING PROPERLY (IT MIGHT BE STIFF), THEN IT’S TIME TO LET IT GO LADIES. THIS IS A SIGN THAT IT’S OLD AND NOT REALLY GOOD TO USE ANYMORE. THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM WAS VERY COMMON A FEW DECADES AGO. NOWADAYS, WE ARE DEFINITELY GETTING MUCH BETTER FORMULATIONS AND INGREDIENTS (SUCH AS SHEA BUTTER AND OILS) WHICH HELP TO MAKE YOUR LIPSTICK VERY FLUID AND EASY TO APPLY.

4.     Depletion

When you are down to the wire and there’s only a little left, it’s time to get a new one. If you are trying to scoop up the last bit, this is a sign that you have had it too long. If this color is no longer available, just connect with me and I will help you find a new one! There are so many great companies with amazing products that we will surely find the lipstick of your dreams. Trust me, ladies, I have done this before!

5.     Heat

If your lipstick has the indications of melting, and you can see signs of this, it’s time to say bye-bye. The way you know it happened for sure is when your entire lipstick is on one side. This typically happens when the lipstick has been left in the car or outside for a while, or you left your lipstick by the window and the heat of the sun just completely melted and the formula got damaged. Here is my solution to this problem: If you need to travel or go somewhere, get a small cold pack and put your favorite lipstick there. Another good benefit of such a precaution is that your lips will be nicely cooled off by applying the cool on the lips. Here is an at-home solution to lip care. Put all your lipsticks in a dark place, away from light and heat - this way they can stay in good shape and keep their longevity. Most of the time the life of lipstick is two years after you bought it, and more often than not, the manufacturer does not take responsibility for their products if something goes wrong.
